Dream Catcher, Replica Mobile for Peter
2024
Six months after the death of my dear friend, Peter Simensky, I was pregnant, and an artist in residence at Montalvo Arts Center. I felt a dark and deep empty gulf between us and I needed to close it. I decided to study the mobile he had hanging over his bed and replicate it from materials I had on hand and found on the land nearby. I decided to hang it over my bed in an effort to invite him into my dreams. As soon as the piece was up, the room felt complete and enriched. The original mobile, Peter’s, was made by artist Hannah Sandin. This work consists of sculptural and photographic forms. The first image below is one in the digital collage series overlaying the two mobiles, creating a through line from his bed to mine. The following album displays sculpture installed at Montalvo Art center, 2024.
